How St. Joseph got its start
The concept of the school was originally conceived by very Revd. Fr. James Seamus Hunter C.S.S.P, an Irish Holy Ghost father who came to Benue on missionary work. When he was posted to the St. Joseph Catholic Independent Mission Nyiman by the Catholic Bishop of Makurdi Rt. Revd. Dr. A.A. Usuh, Fr. Hunter saw the need to encourage the children in and around the parish, in particular and Nigeria in general, to receive a sound education which is affordable..
FMoved by the fervent desire to accomplish this missionary mandate in the community, Revd. Fr. Seamus Hunter (CSSp) established St. Joseph Secondary School on the 24th September, 2001. The school started as a day co-educational secondary school system. This effort would not only reduce the level of illiteracy, but also form a formidable and well culture individuals grounded in Christian virtues capable of changing the Nyiman community and entire Nigerian society for good..
